Myths Busted

There are so many misconceptions and mistakes about the NDIS. Let’s help to set the record straight.

“I Don’t Want the NDIS To Control My Life.”

The NDIS was created to give people with disabilities greater independence, choice and control in their lives to uphold each person’s human rights.

“I Earn Too Much Money to Get NDIS.”

NDIS funding is not based on income. It is based on how much a person is at a disadvantage due to their disability when compared to someone living without a disability.

“My Illness/Disability Does Not Qualify for the NDIS.”

The NDIS is not based on the name of your disability or how common it is. It is based on whether your disability affects your daily life and how it impacts your ability to function each day.

“I Work, So I’m Not Allowed to Go on the NDIS.”

The NDIS was designed to keep you out of hospitals and care facilities and participate in the social community, the same as someone who does not have a disability. This includes going to work and keeping a job.

“I Have To Be Completely Bed-ridden Or Never Be Able To Leave The House To Access The NDIS.”

The NDIS is designed to prevent and/or delay a person with disability and/or mental illness from being completely incapacitated. The NDIS was created to allow people with disabilities to have a quality of life and be functioning members of the community. It has been designed to prevent and delay individuals from needing to go into full-time care.
